The Buckholts Varsity Badger football team traveled to Leander, TX to take on the Summit Academy Eagles from Cedar Park, Tx. The game was played in Rouse HS Stadium.
But, with the ever present injury bug taking it's toll, some of the team also became sick with fumblitis.
Adding insult to injury and illness, and despite a forecast for clear and mild weather, rain came from nowhere in the second quarter.
The Badgers never scored and the Eagles had 40 points starting the third quarter. With 9:37 left in the third quarter, the Eagles scored and the "mercy rule" ended the game. Summit Academy 46, Buckholts 0.

Luke Lorenz scrambles for his first Badger touchdown.
Kane Haley snags his first interception as a Badger.
Kaleb Ralston trots into the end zone for his first Badger TD.

Varsity Volleyball vs Thorndale 09-18-18
The Lady Dogs of Thorndale paid a visit to the Buckholts Lady Badgers for a volleyball match up this past Tuesday, September 18th.
There were a lot of acrobatics in the games, and several near crashes.
Topping things off was a demonstration of no look serving.

Lady Badgers & Lady Lions
The Granger Lady Lions were in Buckholts last Saturday and Monday to tangle with the Lady Badgers in volleyball action.
The Varsity Lady Badgers played Saturday, September 15th, and were fortunate enough to have the instant replay crew on hand reviewing the officials' rulings on the court.
Alas, two didn't get the memo from Coach Mach about game faces.

Varsity Badgers Host The BVCHEA Mustangs
A gloomy sky and occasional rain didn't dampen spirits,
nor quench appetites.
The Varsity Badgers took the field to face the Brazos Valley Christian Home Educators Association (BVCHEA) Mustangs from College Station.
But the gloom spelled doom for the Badgers last Friday night. Starting with three players on the IR list, two players recovering from illness and game play injuries sidelining players and hospitalizing one, Head Coach James Shelton wisely threw in the towel in the 3rd quarter. The game was called with BVCHEA leading Buckholts 46-16.
With only four games left before district play begins, the Badger football team needs to get and stay healthy. With one of their Seniors out for the season and another questionable to return to play, perhaps the program should consider utilizing the football team's strong points, like speed and agility.
Can't change physics.

More Rain Expected
With local rain reports varying from .50 to 1.50, the sun broke through briefly Wednesday evening to reveal a faint rainbow over the Post Office. Another slight forming rainbow is barely visible. The National Weather Service and other prediction offices are forecasting more rain this weekend, with the heaviest rainfall be guessed as Friday. Our area may get up to 1.5 inches Friday. The better news, for the Badgers, is the rain is supposed to decrease Friday evening.
Put on your knee pads and pray for those in the path of Hurricane Florence.

Buckholts HS Football Season Opener
With new AD/Head Coach James Shelton and DC Coach Justin Lookingbill, the Buckholts Varsity Badgers Football Team opened their season against the Wolverines in Penelope on the newly dedicated "Ed Sykora Field". (Think Sykora family Ford).
The Badgers were the first to score, posting 8 points within the first minutes of the first quarter. Through the second quarter, the teams swapped points.
But, the injury plagued Badgers faltered in the second half on the grid iron. Having started the game with three sidelined starters, and adding two more injured players to the bench in the second half, the remaining Badgers ran out of steam and under the "mercy rule", the game was called in favor of Penelope with a score of 94-48 with 6:11 remaining in the 4th quarter.
If the Badgers can recover from injuries and sustain no more, they remain in strong contention for the playoffs.
The Badgers open their at home season this Friday (09-07-18 @ 7PM) against Allen Academy with the Jim Hauk Field new scoreboard! Thanks to Buckholts State Bank and Georgia Pyrtle Crop Insurance for their generous donation of the new scoreboard.

From SOS to COS
For two years Buckholts ISD held SOS (Save Our School) public meetings. Saturday, 08-25-18, at the Buckholts Community Center, Buckholts ISD held its first COS (Celebrate Our School) public gathering to commemorate Buckholts' school having met State standards after years of failing to meet the mark.
The Buckholts School Board provided hot dogs and trimmings for all attendees and school staff and community volunteers provided chips and desserts. Master hot dog chef David Meinardus grilled the wieners over pecan wood, which were a culinary hit with the crowd.
Buckholts' State Board of Education Representative Tom Maynard attended the celebration and addressed the crowd.
Rep. Maynard congratulated Buckholts ISD on its success and stressed the importance of rural schools in Texas. More than a few persons at TEA didn't think Buckholts ISD could meet standards, especially so quickly, but TEA Commissioner Mike Morath gave Buckholts ISD an extended opportunity, under Superintendent Nancy Sandlin. Commissioner Morath, a very recent father of twins and unable to attend the celebration, conveyed his congratulations through Rep. Maynard.
SBOE Representative Maynard and Milam County State Representative Terry Wilson were instrumental in Buckholts ISD's extended time granted by TEA. Executive Director Michael Holland, his staff and provisions provided by Educational Service Center 6 (ESC6) the last two years, were paramount in Buckholts' schools success.
After gobbling hot dog and varied desserts, the crowd was treated to a street dance with DJ Johnny at the helm.
Line dances were crowd favorites.
Congratulations to the staff, students and parents of Buckholts ISD. Keep it up!
